Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday successfully launched Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F09) rocket carrying the GSAT-9 or the ‘South Asia’ satellite from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The rocket took off at 4:57 PM from the second launch pad (SLP) from Sriharikota. GSAT-9 communication satellite has been launched with the aim to provide different communication application in the Ku-band with a coverage in the South Asian region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated ISRO on feat. “I congratulate the team of scientists who worked hard for the successful launch of South Asia Satellite. We are very proud of them,” he said reacting to the occasion. “Successful launch of South Asian Satellite is a historic moment. It opens up new horizons of engagement,” he added.

“We are a united family of South Asian countries, united in our pursuit of peace, progress & prosperity of our region & the entire humankind,” the prime minister wrote in a tweet.
