Have you ever felt so hungry that you wanted food right away, but at the same time, lazy enough to not lift a finger? Thank heavens for technology ! KFC has become the first Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) chain in India to enable ordering food through a voice bot on Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa. You can also order food through Amazon Echo as well as through a range of Alexa built-in devices.
To place an order, you just need to use phrases like “Alexa, start KFC”, “Alexa, launch KFC” or “Alexa, tell KFC I’m hungry”. Or if you just want to check it out, the developers have also added fun trivia related to the brand, nuggets on founder Colonel Sander’s life, and even trained Alexa to give out some chicken jokes. The voice bot’s smart intent and entity detection engine understands what the user wants over time and can complete placing the order by fetching the nearest KFC restaurant to the user’s location.
In a statement, Moksh Chopra, Chief Marketing Officer, KFC India explained why the online opted for voice recognition technology to order food.
“Voice recognition is becoming a game changer today, with millennials rapidly embracing and getting comfortable with this new technology…The idea is to create a whole new-ordering experience in the QSR category.”
Aakrit Vaish, Co-Founder and CEO of Haptik which worked closely with the tech team at KFC India, said in a statement,
“It was a challenging task given the unique product names on KFC India’s menu. The bot was carefully trained on the key entities and the primary intents a user would express in a food ordering flow.”
Now, KFC also plans to enable voice-ordering from within its own mobile app and website.
