After storming the Indian telecom sector with its lucrative data packs and complimentary plans, newbie telecom operator Reliance Jio is ready to disrupt the country by launching a new 4G VoLTE smartphone that could come with a price tag of as low as Rs 500.
According to reports, the announcement could be made at its parent company’s annual meeting– Reliance Industries’ Annual General Meeting that is scheduled to take place on July 21, 2017. The new smartphone is expected to be a part of Reliance Digital’s LYF brand and could be a part of Jio’s aggressive strategy to lure low-end mobile phone user to switch from 2G to 4G VoLTE directly.
Apart from announcing its low-budget 4G smartphone, the telecom operator is also expected to announce new voice and data plans with aggressive pricing to replace its existing data plans including– Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan offer and Jio Summer Surprise offer and lure more customers.
Reports further suggest that the newbie telecom operator has placed an order for 18-20 million 4G VoLTE feature phones with several Chinese device manufacturers including Crave and Megaphone, Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co and Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co. Futhermore, these companies would start shipping the devices by July end or early August and the teleco could launch the new 4G VoLTE smartphone around August 15.

Jio’s low-budget 4G VoLTE smartphone could feature a Qualcomm processor along with 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal memory. The feature phone could also sport a 2MP rear camera with Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC.
