It has become increasingly clear that Facebook spies on us all the time, so do other platforms owned by the social media giant such as WhatsApp and Instagram.
Now there is a new app on Android that lets WhatsApp users spy on their friends and contacts.
The app called ‘Chatwatch’ takes advantage of WhatsApp’s public online/offline status feature, which allows the user to know when their friends are readily available to talk.
Another feature which makes the app more invasive is that ‘Chatwatch’ can combine WhatsApp data from two of your contacts to make an educated guess if they’ve been talking to each other.
“Using this data, the app can tell you how often your friends check WhatsApp. It can even estimate what time they go to sleep and wake up each day,” tech website LifeHacker reported.
Experts say that the app would apparently bring more attention to how Facebook handles our data, along with how other companies access and analyze it.
And one may expect WhatsApp to find a way to block Chatwatch soon.
However, the app is not free and rather it’s expensive. For $1.99, user can get to spy on two of the contacts for a week.
Chatwatch was initially launched on iOS but it was later pulled down from the App Store by Apple for unspecified reasons.
