The world today is gradually moving towards a highly customised consumer space. From food to consumer electronics, from homes to clothes, the extent of technological advancements have made customisation a part of our routine lives. Amid a life that is being tailor-made to suit our needs and comforts, what if there was a way we could customise our shoes too?
If you’re wondering why shoes, then there’s something you must know. Shoes are an important part of our attire and reflect deeply on our personality. And so, to give our feet a ‘twist of our taste’ Nike has come up with a unique concept that allows customers to design their own sneakers using a technology called augmented reality (AR), the one that empowers the super popular game Pokemon GO.
To customise their pair of sneakers, all the shopper has to do is hold a shoe-shaped object in his hands. The head mounted display in the Nike store has an editing program with a tool palette that allows the shopper to use a pen to select tools from the tool palette and add graphics to the shoe-shaped object. Once the design is ready, the shopper can order the shoes, which would be delivered to him as soon as it is printed.
