Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi on Thursday unveiled its flagship smartphone Mi Max 2 in China. The phone, which has the biggest screen size in the company’s lineup, is the successor to Xiaomi Mi Max, which the company had launched in India last year in July. And now a cryptic tweet by the Xiaomi India MD Manu Kumar Jain has raised suspicions that the company might be gearing up for another launch in India. Xiaomi had unveiled its flagship device Xiaomi Mi 6 back in April this year. Speculations suggest that the company would either launch its newly introduced Mi Max 2 phablet or Mi 6 smartphone in July.

Jain highlighted the now the date 23 had been a game changer for the company in India while hinting towards a possible launch on July 23. Xiaomi plans for July 23 remain uncertain.

Meanwhile, let’s find out how Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is different from Xiaomi Mi Max:

Both Mi Max and Mi Max 2 sport a 6.44-inch large immersive display. What separates the two is the defined antenna design and rounded edges that give Mi Max 2 a cleaner and more suave appeal.

When it comes to the core of the smartphone, Mi Max has 1.8 GHz hexacore Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 (and 652) in its core, while its predecessor Mi Max 2 runs on 2.0 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor. The difference between the two processors may not seem significant owing to the clock speed but it is the key to the performance of the two devices. Snapdragon 625 is far more efficient than Snapdragon 650 (and 652) in terms of battery consumption and heating issues.

To put it simply, you can play games on the phone with Snapdragon 625 without worrying about your smartphone getting heated ever.

Talking about memory, Mi Max is available in two RAM variants- 3GB RAM + 32GB memory and 4GB RAM + 128GB memory. On the other hand, Mi Max 2 is available in two memory variants– 4GB + 64 GB memory and 4GB + 128GB memory. Both the phones support the expandable memory of up to 128GB, which is pretty much the same.

In terms of the camera, Mi Max comes with a 16 MP rear camera with PDAF and dual tone flash and a 5 MP front camera. On the other hand, Mi Max 2 features a 12 MP rear camera with Sony IMX 386 image sensor, PDAF and double LED flash and a 5 MP front camera.

What sets the two phones apart is Sony image sensor, which in simple terms enables the Mi Max 2 to capture higher quality images.

Last but not the least Mi Max runs on MIUI 7, which is based on Android Marshmallow. On the other hand Mi Max 2 runs on MIUI 8, which is based on Android Nougat. Having said that, it’s important to note that difference in Android OS does not necessarily translate into a significant difference in Xiaomi’s user interface. On the upside, Mi Max 2 comes with better one handed operation.
