For people who learnt the concept of instant messaging in the 90s, it’s literally the end of an era. Yahoo Messenger will bid us farewell on July 17. The messenger that taught us to communicate over instant messages with the introductory (A,S,L) will soon be erased from our memories forever.
If you think about it now, in the world of WhatsApp, Instagram and Snapchat, Yahoo Messenger would probably come across as a tedious form of communication. But, back in 1998, it had redefined social media communication for us. Even spending 30 odd minutes setting up chat room account on snail-paced dial-up connections seemed exciting.
Well, it’s time to say goodbye to your old friend, as the makers recently announced that Yahoo Messenger would permanently shut down all its operations. Yahoo does give you an option to move onto its invite-only group.
It’s been a fun ride, but Yahoo Messenger is logging off for the last time.
Peace out. https://t.co/UFMi0efhMl pic.twitter.com/4aMXppb9cZ

Naturally, a few of the Tweepies are not taking this too well and have been nostalgia trippin’ ever since.
Those good ol’ days
Farewell Yahoo Messenger! Remembering the happy times when I had just learnt to surf the internet.

It’s time to move on
So finally #YahooMessenger officially shuts down on July 17th.
I hope they close the chat rooms carefully. So many secrets they witnessed and stored.
