Some of the world’s most popular websites including Twitter, Spotify and Soundcloud and are down right for some users due to a potential cyber attack.
According to Hacker News, a ‘massive Dyn DNS outage’ has caused sites including DYN, Twitter, Etsy, Github, Soundcloud, Spotify, Heroku, Pagerduty, Shopify and Intercom, to go down.
Another report by Tech Crunch suggests that issues encountered by users are based on their location. While users in Europe and Asia seem not to be encountering any issues, the outage is mostly affecting customers in the US East Coast.
American internet service provider Dyn said that it had suffered a Distributed Denial of Service (DDos) attack shortly after 1100 GMT. The company has also given a detailed account of what happened during the attack and what steps the company was taking to mitigate the problem.
Spotify and Soundcloud took to Twitter to inform users about the issue.
Uh oh, we’re having some issues right now and investigating. We’ll keep you updated!
