Berlin attack suspect shot dead in a shootout in Italy: Reports

At least 12 people were killed and as many as 48 were injured after a truck ran into small stalls in the crowded Christmas market in Berlin.

Two days after the Berlin market carnage that took place on 20 December the suspect behind the attack was shot dead on 23 December in a shootout in the Milan city of Italy.

A security force official reportedly confirmed the news.

Earlier this week, the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Berlin market attack. At least 12 people were dead and as many as 48 were injured after the truck ran into small stalls in the crowded Christmas market in Berlin.

Asserting that the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, Amaq news agency reported that the attacker, an “Islamic soldier” escaped from the scene after carrying out an attack which targeted citizens of the “Crusader coalition”.

The German police had earlier claimed that the attacker who rammed into a crowd of people in Christmas market in Berlin was a 23-year-old Pakistan migrant. However, the police have released the youth they suspected could be attacker.

Reports suggest that the Pakistani national was used to stay at the Berlin airport and come to Germany last year. Germany’s Chancellor Merkel also said that market carnage was a ‘terrorist act’ and was committed by an asylum seeker. The German police were still interrogating the alleged suspect.

The incident took place on Monday evening around 7 pm. Reports further suggest that the truck that mowed down a crowd of people on Breitscheidplatz Square, was stolen from a refugee. The original driver of the lorry was reportedly found dead.
