Bullet trains are all set to become a reality in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of India’s much-awaited rail project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The train that is expected to run at a speed of 350 kmph is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities. The train project is a joint venture between Indian railways and Japan. The estimated cost of the project is reportedly Rs 1.10 trillion.
Even though the exact fares have not been revealed as yet, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has affirmed that the train would be affordable to all and the prices would be comparable to Rajdhani Express AC 2- tier.

1. Shanghai Maglev

Shanghai Maglev is the fastest train in the world. The high-speed train operates in China and has the potential of covering 30.5 kms in just 8 minutes. The train is also known as Transrapid and runs at a speed of 430 kmph.
2. Harmony CRH380A
The second fastest high-speed train also operates in China. The train has been operating since October 2010 between Beijing and Shanghai. It runs at a speed of 380 kmph. The train also reportedly has deluxe six seat compartments and a separate dining car that serves snacks and special meals to the passengers.
3. Frecciarossa 1000

Frecciarossa 1000 which is supposed to be environmental friendly runs at a maximum speed of 400 kmph. Known as Italy’s “red arrow”, Frecciarossa 1000 is the fastest train in Europe and takes passengers from Milan to Florence or Rome within 3 hours.
4. AGV Italo
AGV Italo
Another high-speed train from Italy, AGV Italo runs at a maximum speed of 360 kmph. The train runs on the Napoli-Roma-Firenze-Bologna-Milano corridor and is operated by Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV).

Siemens Velaro E / AVS 103 is believed to be the second fastest train in Europe and operates at a speed of 350 kmph. The train operations that began in 2006 can easily function in extreme winter conditions and is operational in Spain and China.

Talgo 350 (T350) runs at the speed of 350 kmph on the Madrid-Barcelona line. Also known as El Pato, Talgo 350 (T350) was developed by Patentes Talgo and has numerous passenger friendly features including reading lamps, audio and video devices, power outlets for computers etc.
7. E5 Series Shinkansen Hayabusa

The Japanese high-speed train, E5 Series Shinkansen Hayabusa also known as Hayabusa was put into operation in March 2011. The bullet train travels at a speed of 320 kmph.
8. Alstom Euroduplex

Third generation TGV Duplex, Alstom Euroduplex is a double-deck train that runs at a speed of 320 kmph. It involves several passenger friendly facilities and has the capacity of travelling with 1020 passengers. The train works on French, German, Swiss and Luxembourgish lines.

TGV Duplex is the first third generation double-decker that can accommodate 508 passengers and has a maximum speed of 320 kmph. Manufactured by Alstom and Bombardier, the train runs on Méditerranée line between Paris and Marseille.
10. ETR 500 Frecciarossa

ETR 500 Frecciarossa operates in Italy and runs at a speed of 300 kmph. Also called as Remo, ETR 500 Frecciarossa was reportedly the first Italian high-speed train. The train can reach up to a maximum speed of 350 kmph.
