Four Pakistani human rights activists have supposedly gone missing in a span of one week. According to reports, the family members and relatives of the missing activists who have been extremely vocal about their leftist views on social media informed a international news agency about their disappearance.
According to an AFP report, 2 of the activists, Waqas Goraya and Asim Saeed went missing on January 4 while Salman Haider and Ahmed Raza Naseer disappeared on January 7.
All of them were known for their secular view on social media. The police is currently making efforts to find them. This is not the first time when reprots of actvists disappearing has been reported. A number of journalists and activists who have been vocal about their views on the functioning have gone missing in the past in the country.
The report further added that Haider’s wife received a message from her husband’s phone saying that he was dropping the car on Islamabad expressway. His family found the car abandoned and report. Haider who works as a professor at the Fatima Jinnah University was known for views on Balochistan.
On the other hand, Naseer’s brother told the news agency that he was picked from his family shop.
“The state has controlled TV and now they’re focusing on digital spaces,” Raza Rumi told AFP. Raza Rumi had left Pakistan years ago after his driver was shot dead by unidentified miscreants.
The police have registered a complaint under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code. However, the motive behind the kidnapping has not yet been ascertained. The police have launched a probe and are also trying to gather more evidences by investigating their email address and their phone records.
