British singer George Michael, who became a pop sensation of the 1980s with Wham, breathed his last at his home in England on 25 December.
His publicist confirmed the news stating that he passed away peacefully at his residence over the Christmas period and that the family needed time to recover the loss. “The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage,” the statement said.
However, the cause of the death has not yet been ascertained. George Michael has been known for some of the most iconic numbers including, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”, “Careless Whisper” and the “Edge of heaven”.
After being arrested for a lewd act in a public restroom Michael came out as gay in the late 1990s while asserting that he had no qualms about accepting his sexuality.
The news of his demise has sent shockwaves across the world with people mourning the death of the legendary singer.
Truly the #LastChristmas RIP George Michael.
