Huge fire engulfs 27 storey building in London, 200 firefighters on the spot [Watch videos]

A huge fire broke out at a 27-storey building in central London on Wednesday in which a number of people have been injured. Over 200 firefighters battled the blaze along with 40 fire engines. Fumes of black smoke billowed into the air.

London Fire Brigade said the fire had engulfed all floors from the second to the top of the Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate in west London. There are reports of people who have been trapped in the fire. There are reports that residents were desperately shouting for help from windows on upper floors as the fire spread.

“A number of people being treated for a range of injuries,” police said. “Residents continue to be evacuated from the tower block fire.” The cause of the fire, which broke out just after 0000 GMT, is not known at this stage, the Fire Brigade said.

A number of people are currently being treated for a range of injuries. There is no information yet on whether people are still trapped inside the building or all have been rescued. Reports also suggest that it is not sure whether the building has 24 storeys or 27 storeys. Conflicting reports also suggest that the architects recently had renovated the tower.

There is no confirmation yet on whether there have been any deaths in the fire. Meanwhile, London mayor Sadiq Khan has urged people to follow London Fire Brigade on Twitter for updates.

As per the London Fire Brigade, fire had spread on all floors from the second to the top of the Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate in west London. “We are dealing with a really serious fire that spread throughout the building. The crews are doing all that they possibly can to tackle this fire,” a spokesman for the fire brigade said.
