A day after India announced that it would not attend South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit scheduled to be held in Pakistan in November, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan announced that they too would not attend the annual gathering in view of the recent circumstances.
Dhaka has conveyed to current Saarc chair Nepal citing “growing interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh by one country”, IANS reported.
Bhutan too joined other SAARC countries in conveying its inability to participate in the SAARC Summit, ANI reported.
“Bhutan shares concerns of some of SAARC countries on deterioration of regional peace & security due to terrorism,” sources told ANI.
Due to increased level of violence, fighting as a result of imposed terrorism on Afghanistan President of Afghanistan with his responsibilities as Commander in Chief will be engaged and will not be able to attend SAARC Summit, ANI reported.
Earlier on Tuesday, India announced that it would not attend the SAARC Summit in Islamabad in November, saying that regional cooperation and terror don’t go together.
In a statement, India said increasing cross-border terrorist attacks in the region and growing interference in the internal affairs of Saarc member states “by one country” have created an environment that is not conducive to the successful holding of the 19th Saarc summit.
