Saudi Arabia Creates History, Hosts First-Ever Fashion Week

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who has taken a host of steps to rein in the religious hardliners and bridge the gender gap in the country.

Saudi Arabia’s first fashion week kicked off Tuesday amid excitement and controversy.

The event is set to showcase works of some of world’s top fashion designers including Roberto Cavalli and Jean Paul Gaultier show collections alongside the local talent. Until this week, Arab Fashion week had been hosted exclusively in Dubai.
Yet, restrictions persist as only women are permitted at catwalk events and outside photography is barred.

Strict social restrictions have eased under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who has taken a host of steps to rein in the religious hardliners and bridge the gender gap in the country.

As of this summer, women will be allowed to drive in the ultra conservative kingdom. The 32-year-old has also lifted ban on public concerts and cinema halls.
