UK security personnel disguise as beggars, sweepers to foil terror attack bid

The UK has witnessed a series of terror attacks recently. On June 4, Attackers drove a van at high speed into pedestrians on London Bridge.

In a bid to avoid terror attacks in future, special forces personnel are posing as beggars and sweepers at key locations in London and other cities. According to media reports, the troops have been in place for ‘some time’ to maintain covert surveillance and respond quickly to any future attacks.

According to a report of The Independent, an official said, “These soldiers provide a very good layer of immediate response at least to minimise casualties or stop injuries or deaths if they react quickly.” Notably, the operation is police-led but the director of special forces is kept in touch with developments and is in touch with his men at all times.

“Special forces soldiers armed with Heckler and Koch MP7 are disguised as beggars and road sweepers at key at key positions in cities and poised to strike at a moment’s notice,” said another official, according to a report in Mirror.

Armed police rushed to the scene where shots were heard and authorities urged Londoners on Twitter to “run, hide, tell” if they were caught in the attack. At least seven people were killed and two attackers were shot dead by police near London Bridge.

Before the London Bridge attack, at least 19 people were killed and 50 others injured in May, in a suspected terror attack that took place at Ariana Grande concert in crowded Manchester Arena.

A suicide bomber was behind the suspected terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena. In March this year, four people were killed in an attack on Westminster, central London, which targeted the Houses of Parliament.
