Chicago teen apparently raped on Facebook Live relocated with family

Authorities say the teen was raped while around 40 people viewed it live on Facebook. However, no arrests have been made in the case

The fifteen-year-old Chicago girl who authorities say was raped while around 40 people viewed it live on Facebook has been relocated with her family. The Chicago Sun-Times reports police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in an email Friday that the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office offered the girl and her family relocation services. He added the girl “is in a safe place.”

Guglielmi further said, the girl has received additional threats and taunting on social media since she was reunited with her family. However, Chicago police officials say investigators are looking into the threats.

However, no arrests have been made in the case while authorities say the investigation is making progress.

The Chicago Police Department contacted Facebook to take down the video, which it did immediately.

The mother told The Associated Press on Wednesday that her daughter was scared to return home and the family is being harassed by neighbourhood kids. She also says that since the attack, people have posted threats on social networking site Facebook.

Police learned of the attack on the girl when her mother approached Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson on Monday.

The girl disappeared on March 19 from the Lawndale neighbourhood and was reported to police as a missing person by her family.
